again since I've been catching alot of slack about the lack of updates. I mean, 6 months, really? This is a shot of Maya from a week or two ago on a chilly Saturday afternoon outing into the CBD (Central Business District, aka downtown) and Sydney aquarium. Because parking in the CBD is so scarce and expensive, we really appreciate having Consular license plates, which allows us to park in specially designated "Consular Vehicle Only" spots smattered around the CBD. There aren't many, and they're not easy to find, but now that we've mapped them out over the past 18 months or so, we consider it a treasure map of sorts!
Anyway, our trusty Saturday spot by the Canadian Embassy just happens to be a block from a Starbucks, which looked invitingly cozy on this particular cloudy, cool June morning (I know, it's still weird to us that June = winter), so we decided to introduce Maya into the American icon. (Yes, you anti-Starbucks people can cringe now, but it's a little slice of Americana to us, plus they give you coffee in AMERICAN size portions, instead of the thimble sized Sydney sizes).
One local phenomenon that Starbucks picked up was offering "babyccinos" to customers with kids. When we first arrived to Sydney and I saw all these kids with mini-coffees I was shocked that parents were giving espresso drinks to their tiny tots, until I learned that it's simply steamed milk with a sprinkle of cocoa powder on top. Good thing.....the last thing we need is for Maya to have MORE energy!
So, she wasn't such a fan of the babyccino after all, but her parents enjoyed their mega-lattes and the comforting aromas and atmosphere of a small slice of home.
